How to Prevent Fake Orders and Enhance Fraud Protection on Your Store?

Fraudulent orders can harm your business, leading to chargebacks, inventory losses, and unnecessary costs. The EasySell Fraud Protection system helps prevent suspicious activity by blocking high-risk orders based on different criteria.

To access Fraud Protection section
Go to Settings
Then click on the Fraud Protection tab

1- Order Blocker

The Order Blocker feature prevents customers from placing multiple orders using the same IP address, phone number, or email address. You can also limit the number of orders and product quantities per transaction.

πŸ“Œ Note: These restrictions do not apply to test orders placed by you or your team.

How to use order Blocker

- Restrict Orders Based on IP, Email, or Phone
Enable the β€œ Only allow X orders per IP address, phone, or email within X hours.” option.
Set the maximum number of orders allowed per timeframe ( For example, no more than 10 orders within 24 hours )

- Limit Product Quantity per Order
Enable β€œ Block orders if the combined product quantity is more than X.”
Set a maximum number of products allowed per order.

- Blocked IP Addresses
Enter one IP address per line in the Blocked IP Addresses section.

To block a suspicious client that you think is making fake orders, you need to know their IP address first. Here's how to get it, Go to your Shopify Admin, then Orders, click on the client's order, on Additional details you will find the IP address.

- Blocked Phone Numbers
Enter one phone number per line with the country code.

- Blocked Email Addresses
Enter one email per line in the Blocked Emails section

- Add a message to be shown to blocked customers

Enter the message you want to show when the customer is blocked or leave it empty if you don't want to show a message.

2- Exclude postal codes

Refer to this article to learn how to limit the availability of Cash on Delivery to specific postal codes.

3- Phone number Verification (OTP)

The third method is Phone Number Verification, which ensures that only real customers place orders by requiring them to verify their phone number via a 4-digit SMS code. When enabled, after the customer submits their order, an OTP (One-Time Password) popup will appear, asking them to verify their phone number.
The order is created immediately in Shopify, and if the customer verifies their phone, a tag β€œ EASYSELL_VERIFIED” is added to the order. If they don’t verify, the order remains untagged, allowing you to follow up later.

However, if you prefer to only create the order after verification, you can enable an option to require OTP verification before order creation.

You can enable or adjust phone number verification settings in the SMS Messages section.

4- Bot Protection

The Bot Protection feature blocks fake orders and bots without using CAPTCHAs or adding extra steps for customers. It tracks user behavior in the background to detect and stop automated threats while keeping checkout smooth and hassle-free. Need help? Chat with us.

This feature is available only on paid plans. Please upgrade to access it.
